Who's getting the new iPhone X when it becomes available? As far as I could tell, the only thing you get for the extra money is the face ID because all the other upgrades seem to be about the cameras, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Suppose people with some sight might benefit from the better cam, but for those of us who are totally blind I don't know if the face ID is enough to justify the extra cost. I'd be interested in hearing other peoples' input, though. Thanks and have a great day.
Actually I wonder if the extra camera will help with character recognition on apps like Prismo Go, Seeing AI and the ... KNFB reader even. I'd be curious there. Face ID is an interesting concept, but as I often have my phone in my front pocket, just diddling it with my fingers through my shirt after unlocking with the touch ID. I don't know if I like that idea at all. Plus the security issues that may or may not exist. I understand for those of us who can't look directly into the camera there's a way to turn such precise recognition off, but then it sounds like you're left with a less secure face ID. It uses IR beams to map your face. I hope that works at night in pure darkness as well. I'm sure it must. Surely Apple would have thought of all these concerns. It's all moot for me anyway. I just baught an IPAD pro this year and the Iphone 6 S PLUS last year. No way I can justify buying anything knew, let alone a monster like the Iphone X. I live up here in that there Canadia where cell phone plans are gutter shite and everything costs at least several hundred dollars more than in the US. I'd probably get a pair of Air Pods before a new Iphone honestly.
If you can turn face ID off, then you'll always need to type in your password.
No touch ID at all.
I agree, for totally blind persons, the extra $350 to $400 wouldn't be worth the cost unless you just want the latest and greatest.
If you are parshal sighted, the larger screen is going to be a bonus.
However, the plus model would do well for that too.
All the extra features are visual.
It is a bit smaller thinner and lighter then the plus model, but that is about it as far as the totally blind go.
Myself, I'll upgrad to the 8.
Oh, and I think it is badassed, but not enough.
If I had some glasses, I'd order one, if I could get one.
Laughing.
That should have been $300 to $350.
Now you know either my typing, or math sucks.
Laughing.
I've read reports, it will be hard to get, but I'll bet not.
Some reporters and Apple employees already have play models, so...
Ah, the lucky few.
I'm gona sign up for the 8, not the X. The 8 is a serious upgrade for me running a 6. I run my phones for 3 years if I can get away with it, or at least 3 from the release date of the phone itself.
Last year, T-Mo texted saying I'm due for a two-year upgrade but I'd just bought two Galaxy Note 7 devices for the Wife and daughter, hence I stuck to my usual, wait the extra year.
Nothing in the X that I really want, but the 8 will certainly be a good upgrade.
For my part, I will be sticking with my SE for the foreseeable future or until/unless it stops working or iOS stops supporting it. I don't see much value added in the hardware Apple has released over the past couple of years, particularly from the viewpoint of a totally blind person. Am I missing something? Or am I right to keep my wallet closed!
If you are totally blind, sure. Nothing new really benefits us.
If the SE supports and works smoothly with the newest iOS, then you're good to go.
Undecided what to do. If my 5s will be compatible with IOS11, I think I'll keep it until prices come down some more. Does anyone have any ideas on compatibility?
To those who are holding back from upgrading:
Honestly, you all have to consider the processors of your phones. A 5S in particular, is soon going to become irrelevant, if it hasn't already. That being said, I'm not even sure if a 5S can upgrade to iOS 11. Even if it will, it's going to run extremely slowly. that's the thing when we upgrade to later operating systems. We need to have the processors that can keep up with the speed demanded from those operating systems. That being said, an iPhone 6 and iPhone SE should both be good for another year or two, hopefully. Though you'll probably start to notice some slowdowns in iOS 11.
I intend to stick with my iPhone 7 this year, personally. However, the wireless charging in the iPhone 8 and later definitely do have a certain appeal to them. I noticed none of you mentioned that. It's actually pretty significant, especially since the later iPhone models don't have headphone jacks. It will mean that you can be able to start listening to stuff on your ear phones again while they're plugged into your lightning port, and just set the phone down at an applicable wireless charger, and it will automatically charge it. Personally, I never had this issue, since I have a good Bluetooth headset which works very well with my iPhone 7, but it is a nice thing to have, to be sure. I might even start using the Earpods again when I upgrade next year, honestly.
Now I just want to see one of those charging tables at restoraunts I hear talk of. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome!
I have no interest in abandoning my SE. I like its size, and I assume the new phones are larger? And I'm not happy about lack of earphone jacks. Surely, that limits your choice of earphone type?
And doesn't one of these new ones also omit the Home button?
For an iPhone 5 or 5s, you will not be disappointed to the upgrade, doesn't matter either to 8 or 8+ or 10/x or even to SE. there are a few people mention that they are not keen on the 10/x or the plus model. However, if you are someone who rely a lot on your camera, and on the accuracy of the camera taking good photos, doesn't matter for OCR purposes or, for video call, the 8plus will be the way to go. Yes, the screen size might not helping you much, but the quality of the camera itself, and also the bigger capacity of the battery, worth that extra price.
As far as the no headphone jack business is concern. it is not that there is no headphone jack. Apple removed the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, and replace it with lightning adaptor. of course, this means that you can't possibly charging the phone and using the headphone at the same time, however, with the wireless charging technology, this might means that you can free the lightning jack more to use for your headphone instead.
Now, as to 10 or x model, honestly, i'm not too sure about it. Of course, it will be amazing to have one of those, to use one of those, but at the same time, it is also on the costly side. Considering this is the first ever kurve screen phone from apple, I will be a little bit on the reserve side. i would like to see what they can bring next year, and what sort of innovation it will be on top of what it is right now.
As a personal opinion, if you own a 5s or below, which means 5 or 4s etc, i'll suggest you to take a serious look on upgrading it to either 6s, or SE for the size, or 6sPlus if you want the battery and camera. If you don't bother so much by having the latest and fastest, and don't mind sharing your headphone with lightning connector, i'll look seriously in to 7, and 7plus if you want one of the best camera (pre iPhone 8/10).
And, of course, if you have the budget to spend more, iPhone 8 or 8plus will be the choice to go.
And, finally, if you have 1000 spare change, give it all in, go for the iphoneX or iphone10. :)
Spare change you say?
**rattles his piggy bank.
Hmm, guess not.
Smile.
Anyway, I get around the no headphone jack and charging with a simple iPhone dock. Mine has a headphone jack on the dock.
I'm still a wired headphone person.
You've got other options too in a simple cable or adapter that will allow you to charge and listen with the 3.5 jacks as well. Maybe a $15 to $20 gadget.
As for that wireless charging, I'm excited to try that at the Starbucks.
Recharge, and get a charge. Laughing.
I am a bit shy saying that the 5S won't run iOS 11 well, but I'd wait and see what others say around thirsday or Friday of next week.
The only problem might be when the X or called Ten is released. That next update might cause you some issues.
The SE, as stated is a inexpensive way to get updated now. The price on it has even dropped.
If you like your 5S size, but want more phone, grab an SE.
I thought the no-headphone jack on the 7 would be problematic too before I actually got one myself. It's easy to say that something like that will be a problem when you really have no concept of what the no-headphone jack means. I think I'm gonna ask for earpods for my birthday though cause I love the idea of being able to have Bluetooth capability, Siri capability and the ability to listen to my music all in one.
Hi, I know, SF IPhone 7plus!. You, yes but moving on, I've got LG tones and LG platnoms wireless earphones or ear buds I do not miss the Ear-Pod wire counter parts. My suggestion, get a pare of wireless earphones or buds that fit your budget you willl like using for a wile.
Lots of other choices over the Apple ones and better sounding even.
I still think wired beats wireless in quality at the higher end anyway.
You can also add a feature called a DAT, if you're really in to fine sounding music.
One thing I've noticed. Each time Apple releases a new phone with the newest iOS, you get better sound quality.
Is this my imagination?
The bit rate is really up now, so the better processor you have the better your tunes sound.
I do a fair amount of music listening, so that's always a plus for me.
I think if you need a headphone jack, you can get an adapter? No? I'm not sure. I personally will be upgrading to the IPhone 8+. Even with the 6S+, IOS 11 beta runs slowly. There is a lot of lag with different voices while running VoiceOver, and at this time, Alex seems to work best.
Nathan.
You can get adapters as I've said.
I have one that makes a 3.5 in to a lightening jack.
But you can also get them with a jack for headphones, and the charging cable on the same unit.
Also, if you want the plus, you probably should pre oderd if you want it soon.
Last I checked, it was in back order on some cellular company's in some colors.
The reason, some carriers are letting it go at a good monthly rate.
It normally would be $40, but some are disdiscounting it to $33. Strong reason to buy.
I just checked and I guess the plus is in good supply.
I had forgotten this fact, but you get one adapter in the box for the 3.5 to lightening situation with your new iPhone.
I've used my iPhone 6 without a case since I've had it. I don't want the Otterbox because I put the phone in my front jeans pocket.
Might be interested to look at a case, one that still fits the phone into my pocket. Other than that, no.
They've got some really good cases now that don't make the phone so big anymore.
You can even get them clear.
Actually, it looks like none of the phones are really out of stock this year. Probably because Apple decided to release three models instead of the usual two. I've been hearing from several people who are upgrading this year that they were able to preorder pretty much anything they wanted with relative ease. I'd wager the X will be the one that might go on backorder before the 8 or 8+, since those two are pretty much glorified iPhone 7's with wireless charging capability and bluetooth 5.
They've got other features too, but you're right, I think Apple has plenty stock.
As of today, they did.
I'm going to try the pre order of the Ten just to see if I could get one on the top of the pre order day.
I believe that will be October 27th. It be interesting to see.
Cellular company's have announced that they'll let you now get the 8's for 50% if you'll take an old two year contract.
Sprint and T-Mobile were boasting about it before relase day, but I got an announcement from Verizon today that there doing the same on select phones.
I'd think the 8 will be one as well.
Gonna be stuck with my 5s a while longer.
I have a 6+ I was given earlier this year, and I'm gonna be on that for awhile yet I think. Definitely don't like the idea of not having a headphone jack, and don't like the idea of massive slowdown because later versions of IOS get more and more bloated.
That being said, you're talking to a guy who was, until this last January, using a 4S with IOS 6 point something-or-other. I couldn't run a lot of really new apps, but for what I did use the phone for, it worked like a charm.
I've also never really used a case for my phone either. I bought one with the 4S, just a basic one, and found that it was constantly putting me on speaker-phone during calls and I couldn't tell why. As soon as I took the thing out of its case, I had no issues.
Well, it isn't bloat that maes the phones slower, it is the OS's abilities.
Everything has a reason why it is available, and with the latest device you can access them.
Sure, you notice a slowdown, because it requires more processing power to be able to make these services and such work.
On an older phone, you can maximize your power by shutting down any processes you can find that run in the background.
Let's be realistic though. This is part of a very common issue in both hardware and software called planned obsolescence. Hardware and software are being designed in such a way that you are being pushed very hard to upgrade. Some slowdown will definitely occur because of new abilities vs. an older chipset and all that, but a lot of this is deliberate design. After all, who wants to use a slow phone? So you upgrade, you realize your phone is slow and then further realize "Hey I need a new phone", and the cycle sets in.
Just look at Windows as an example. People will tell you that, say, you need a certain amount of RAM to run windows 10, and it's just not technically true. Apple is advanced enough, and the iDevices are advanced enough, that they could do a lot to not make their OS lag on older models, but it's not happening. The iPhone in particular has quite a bit of power under the hood. There's no reason that an OS itself should be causing any appreciable lag on it, not unless we're talking, say, an iPhone 4 trying to run IOS11, and even then that's a stretch.
Well, in defense of Apple.
They do seem to make the latest softwear run on say 3 generations of phones.
Example, you can run iOS11 on a iPhone 6S fine. Probgably even a 6.
If you look at it, that is 4 years you can possibily uuse your device easy.
Apple will even allow you to by hard wear protection and service for a device for 2 years.
You don't need this if you are under a cellular company contract, and you don't actually need it for the first year of service either.
We are always clammering for advances. If they don't give us anything exciting, or new, or add features, we say they are getting lazy, and not producing anything.
Lastly, a company can only sell so many old devices before everyone that wants one has one. If Apple isn't making money, development stops.
Look at the new features for just games alone, that requires some heavy processing power to make it all works smoothly in a device that fits in your pocket.
If it looks bad, what do we say?
this is not new. new os running on new technology. who would like to run windows 10 on a computer that build for XP? Same goes with the phone. so far, Apple has support at least 4 generation of the phone. if you want, i'm sure you can still run iphone 5s on ios11. considering they just stop the support for 4s last year for ios 10. and be honest, 4s has been around for at least 6 years.
if you compare to Android, most phones will only support 2 to 3 os upgrade, in fact, unless you go for big phones like the Samsung Galacy or such, most entry and mid range Android phone will only support up to 2 os upgrade or some only 1.
Same goes with the computer too. how many computer that build before 2010 can smoothly run windows 10? and don't forget, you pay for what you get. if you pay for $500 for 4 years, i think you are well and truely get your value back from that $500. otherwise, why bother to have a smart phone? you might just go back and have a slow phone, that enable you to call and text.
Yes, right.
You won't get access to the newest features and apps, but your older devices will work.
If you are sure the next update will make your phone to slow, or uninteresting, simply don't update it. It will still work for you until the device stops working.
I dunno. One of the reasons I didn't upgrade till this year was because I used my 4s for four years, almost four and a half, and while I didn't do absolutely everything with that phone, I did a good deal with it. Never had it in to be fixed, never had it crash. You're also talking to someone who had a desktop computer built in 2004-05 I believe, which lasted quite nicely into 2011. By then it was definitely not state-of-the-art and couldn't run the latest and greatest, but it wasn't lagging to hell and gone either. For everything I wanted it to do, it worked for years.
So there was, in both cases, nothing wrong with the hardware. My 4s probably still works, in fact. I just haven't had cause to use it. I sort of dislike the notion that we should buy a new phone whether we actually need one or not. I mean sure, if your old phone really is getting slow and behind the times, then get it replaced. But if it's not? Why force us to upgrade?
And as for this bit about Apple needing to make money? Please. The cost of an iPhone is way, way, way above its production price. They're making enormous amounts of money, and would do so even if they relaxed their planned obsolescence practices. Ditto Microsoft. Ditto just about every other electronics out there.
But that is just it.
You say your 4S probably still works. So, if so, why aren't you using it?
You aren't ever forced to upgrade, that is a personal choice you make.
If you don't want nor need to use the new features, don't upgrade.
As far as the functions your 4S was good at, it still will be.
greg, i bought my laptop in 2006, and it is still operating even until now. I stop using it last year because most of the softwares, and websites i need really slow, and most of the software these dayd does not support window XP anymore.
Same goes with a phone, or with anything really. i have an 1st or 2nd gen ipod touch that is still running ios4.3. it runs smoothly, and i use it for playing music and reading on iBooks. now, can i use that ipod to go online? sure i can, but most website will not run smoothly on it, (beside zone perhaps).
I have a ipad4 2012 (pre retina) running smoothly on ios 9. i can update it for ios 10 for sure. but i know, ones i update it to ios10, it will lag. because, the os simply too heavy for it to run smoothly.
same thing, you can choose to drive on a 1980s truck, or you can choose to drive on a 2015 hybrit car. both perform differently. one might be more comfortable to ride for a long trip, other might have better suspention and can go all sort of wild environment. no one going to take a gun and point at you, forcing you to drive the 1980s truck, or switch to the 2015 car. there is no right or wrong, it is just depends on what suits you.
I'm objecting to the idea of planned obsolescence, not to the fact that things are different. What you say is true, but it's missing the point.
You wanna know the reason I have a 6+ now? My mom had one, was upgrading to a 7, and basically passed it along. I still have my 4s sitting in a box for an emergency. I didn't go out and buy a 6+ and probably wouldn't have upgraded if I hadn't been given that phone.
I guess my point here, since I apparently haven't conveyed that, is this. New versions of an OS are often bigger and heavier than they have to be in order to do what they claim to do, and this results in needing to buy the newest model for peak performance. I think it's kind of draconian, honestly. We could be getting most of the upgrades with less bloat under the hood, but capitalism wins the day. Apple is making a killing.
You're right, of course. No one's forcing me to upgrade. I just hope OS version upgrades never become forced either, because i'd like to avoid IOS11 if it's going to actually cause slowdown. That was mmy entire reason for posting here in the first place.
Well, Leo has updated his 6 to iOS11 and you can read his results on the other post about it.
I understood your point just fine.
What I don't understand is how you believe a service, any service, can offer more powerful, or intensive services without adding more ability/power to the softwear that is responsible for the smooth running of said services.
Sure, they could produce updates with less services, but why? Just keep the softwear they are offering, and never offer anything else that requires more bloat as you suggest.
You have to understand, that in order to be able to offer these services, there going to have to make changes.
If that change requires you retire your 4 year old device, and that is only because you wish to use the new services, what are they supposed to do about that?
To me it is unreasonable to expect better, faster, more intensive services with no power changes.
It actually hasn't really grown in size believe it or not. They have figured out a way to pack more in to a smaller form.
Sure, some, but not as much as you think.
To combat that, they've also offered more GB or space in the entry level model, and you want to know what, lowered the price of it last year.
64 GB is costing less then it did before actually, because you need more space if you decide to take the fancy pictures the devices is capable of.
Now, they don't say, you must take these pictures, you can take regular ones too. They've even offered a format saving program to help you conserve if you decide to use the fancy stuff.
So, as far as I see it, they are doing a fine job for me the customer.
Now, as pointed out, if you aren't interested in the new, don't update.
Part of the problem, Greg, is that some newer technologies require newer better processors. I don't doubt there is some planned obselescence here.
But when we network all our devices together, needs for updated security often force upgrades. Back in the days when a computer was a stand-alone machine, you could choose to upgrade from DOS 3.1 to 5.0 or not, and not really suffer except for some memory management issues. Not if you were continuing to run the applications you had previously been running.
We run into problems though when everything's connected online. Now to keep it all secure means updates to parts of the technology, some of it advertised and some of it not.
I know someone who still uses an iPhone 4, but not to use the web or any internet-based stuff anymore. Just as a phone, it still works, although would have worked better with an older operating system than iOS7, I think is the latest for that one.
Its camera doesn't do well for OCR and a lot of other things many of us have started getting used to since 2010 when the 4 came out.
It's possible, yes. But you just can't do too much with the device.
Now that my 8 is here, it's way snappier than the 6 was with ioS11. To be fair, the 6 was very snappy with the OS on which it came.
Usually I find by year 3, the phone starts to get painfully slow, and I'm a pretty heavy apps user anymore. If I can do it on an app or on a website, i'll use the app.
Also, you should get someone to describe to you the powerful visuals an iPhone is capable of now.
That, is as the man said in the release, is magic.
Even the day to day stuff is just badassedcompared to what we had before.
Even from iOS 10 to 11, it is a tremendous change.
Now these place mat sized phone really shine, and even the smaller screen models are just wonderful.
Now, from a blind persons prospective, all that is mute, but there you have it.
Here's something I am wondering about.
I couldn't find the answer, so here goes people.
If you have an iPhone X, how are you going to force close, or shutdown an app you don't want running anymore?
We won't have a home button, so can't double click it to get to that screen.
Shutdown the phone currently doesn't work.
What say you?
i suppose you will have the option for force close or shut down the app on the app's menu, when you double tap on it.
Might, but as you know, we've got enough options on the app already to deal with.
Move it, delete it, open it.
So maybe a two finger gentle tap, because if to hard, it would activate the 3D touch as it does now if you over tap.
I'm betting since touch ID is so popular after people basicly rejected it, they'll put it back in the next version of the X.
It could be like on the Android, a sensor on the back, or under the glass on the screen.
I just upgraded to the iPhone 8. Honestly, the X seems pretty over the top to me. Nothing much different except face ID and the camera. Processor speed is the same, which is what's most important to me personally. I do use the camera for text recognition, but I highly doubt the camera on the X is so improved that it would make a significant difference in tasks like that.
Yes, the size of the SE is nice, but I found it to be way slower than even my 6S. Slower processor, and lower quality speaker in the SE. So as much as I miss the smaller size of the SE or the 5S, there's no way I'd stay with it or go back to it.
Gregg, I get your point about what you're calling planned obsolescence. I just tend to call it the two-year curse. You are absolutely right that it is deliberate, and it is sucky, and it does get the results they want...even from me. I guess I figure that since I can't really do anything about it, and since I don't want a slow and sluggish phone, I'll go ahead and upgrade. Yes, I know it could be said I'm just further supporting Apple by doing this, and maybe it is. But at the end of the day, me not upgrading out of a dislike for this concept isn't going to make a damn bit of difference in whether Apple or the other phone manufacturers continue to do this. For me personally, what matters more is that I have a phone that works efficiently and quickly.
Well, if I were visual as I've said, I'd wait and go an X.
The plus with 256GB is $949 already, so about 150 more and I'm in bragging right mode.
Laughing.
But as I am now, the 4.7 model does me well.
I even took 64GB. I had 128 before and never used more then 25 to 30GB of it, so.
have they took the touch ID off completely for the X? But then, well, i suppose it kind of make sense, there are people out there that just don't have finger print for whatever reason.
Yes. No home button, so no way to do it as of now.
I have gotten to like the touch ID. I wasn't sure I would, but it makes things easy like paying for a Starbucks when your hands are full, or logging on to your phone in motion.
Cuts down on all that typing in of passwords.
i thought they going to inbat it on the glass? at least thats my impression anyway.
In response to post 40:
There is a voiceover gesture I'm pretty sure on the iPad which can pull up the app switcher. My wager is that they will probably do something similar with the iPhone X. Otherwise, there is nothing from stopping them from using the power button for this just like every other thing they're going to use it for. I mean, it's already become the next accessibility button; press the power button 3 times and it will toggle whatever accessibility feature you have set to it. It's going to become the Siri activation button; press and hold it and Siri comes up. So, theoretically, two rapid presses could be just as easily used to call up the app switcher. Don't think that Apple has not thought of the accessibility issues. Honestly, even with all the flaws that make me so despise iOS 11, I still think that Apple are probably among the best mainstream companies when it comes to accessibility.
I believe if you press the power button now 3 times you call emergency in your area.
But, sure, that could work.
App switching isn't only something we need. Sometimes apps just get out of wack, so need to be shutdown and restarted.
I right now am in the habit of shuting any down I'm not using, or clearing them all at days end if I've used several.
I know I don't need to, it is just habit.
No, as of this X issue, no way to do this. Maybe 3D touch will be made to.
No touch ID though yet.
The face ID is what they are pushing for the X.
Hi, there is a way to reach the app switch via third-d touch, press and hold your screen on the top left to reach the app switcher. As far as the 8 is concern, my 7-+ 128 maybe the last IPhon for me after owning a Oreo device.
Okay. I had forgotten about that one.
I remember it now.
Guess I should start using it to get use to that home button going away next time.
Thanks.
Now that you smart people have told me how to handle a phone without my home button crutch. Laughing.
I am really tempted to order the X and see how it works for the 14 day trial.
Some providers are even giving 30 days, like AT&T.
Sure, I know it won't give me anything extra but a higher monthly bill and a slimmer wallet.
That equals less beer sipping out,.
But, for the trial period, it might be interesting.
Laughing.
since you guys already have a week or two with your new toy. what is the impression so far? is the battory life better? want to hear more. :)
Remember, iOS 11 is eatingbattery.
The phone in my opinion is better then before, but that was expected.
How much better depends on what you had before though.
It is slightly better then a 7, but not in battery life.
However, neither is the 7 if you've upgraded to iOS 11.
It works really smoothly, and again, I believe the sound quality of music playback has gone up a few notches.
Its hard to say how things will be once all the glitches are worked out, but that's a normal thing with Apple when they release the new OS always.
It takes a couple changes to get it all working smoothly.
And speaking of getting to the app switcher.
Now that I've been retold how, I find I don't even need to go to the top left corner.
All I need to is make sure I swipe left before pressing on the side of my phone.
If I don't swipe, I sometimes will cause whatever app my finger lands on to go in to the 3D mode, so I just make sure to swipe and get to the far left side.
Seems to work just anyplace.
Thanks again for that.
To post 49:
I'm fairly sure that you have to press the power button five times to reach emergency services, not three. At least, on an iPhone 7. I don't see why they would change that for later versions of the iPhone. In India, it's apparently three times, but I'm pretty sure anywhere else it's five.
See source link below:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208076
I'd have to say you were correct.
I know you press it, but I didn't commit how many times for where I live to memory.
I'd simply call 911. That has been programmed in to me forever.
I'd really have to rethink before I'd press the button even though it be faster
Thanks for the info.
Joanne, the iPhone8 is way better than the 6, at least comparable battery life if not longer.
I'm new to 3D touch and haptics, but, well, nifty. <smile>
Right Leo.
Joanne's got the 6S, but she'd see improvent with the 8.
I'm trying to convince her to buy me the X, so she doesn't need the 8.
Laughing.
hahaha, even the apple store staff is convincing methat i need the x not the 8+. lol. laughing back
Don't listen. I know whats best.
Laughing.
I haven't read posts, but I'm going to put in my opinions, do with them what you will. As someone who often hops on products early, I thought when I saw it that the iPhone x would be mine. Then I started digging, looking at reviews, tech documents, and first hand accounts, and I changed my mind. The phones have the same chip in it, will get around the same battery life, have very similar rear shooters with the exception of ais on the second sensor in the 8, and the 8 actually gets better battery life than the x, because of having to drive the updated graphics chip and the OLED display. Did you also know that 8 is also faster than x? the chips inside have to work harder to drive the OLED display, so its not that big, but the 8 and 8+ do have better benchmarks. Plus, the main way of unlocking the phone failed first try in front of millions. couple all of that with manufacturing issues because of the knew tech and low yields, I picked up a 256 gig 8 plus last week and won't be turning back any time soon. Plus, being able to unlock my phone and change videos under my pillow so as not to wake my partner is something I just don't want to lose.
Just a few more days for you that want one.
Some tips I read for insuring you get a finger fighting chance at one.
Make sure you don't have an outstanding bill that's over due.
If you are trading, pay any remaining balance on it so you've got the required amount paid in.
Go on a bit early and pick your color and all, so you know how to get it.
Some say use more then one source, such as having a computer and your phone open to the page in case one quits for some reason.
Set a couple alarms to wake you if you can't stay awake.
They say the apple app on the phones going to be best, but I always just order from my company.
Ordering directly from Apple does have a couple perks however.
So, okay, you are ready.
Lets go.
Laughing.
here is the thing. your going to be very lucky if you even get one. apple stores will have them at launch, but even apple is telling people to show up very early. the supply chain can't keep up with the demans, my suggestion is, if your feeling lucky. but if you are going to pre order, just wait till you can pick one up. you will most likely be waiting till some time next year.
Naw.
I've been really lucky with pre ordering.
One year I got my phone handed to me at 8 A.M on launch day, and the stores weren't even open yet.
It sold out and some stores didn't even have one.
Standing in line? Never again.
I have even had my phone delivered to me when I wasn't even in town.
I put the delivery address in, and just hang out and UPS or Fed Ex shows up and that's that.
If I'm in the mood, I'm going to try it just to see if I get to the buy page.
I'll not get it, but it might be interesting to see if I could.
On second thought, maybe I should let it go.
Show up at my local store on Friday, and sell that girl for 100 over what I paid.
Laughing.
Sings.
To nights the night.
Gonna be on site.
Laughing.
Good luck to all ye who craveth the 10.
or or or, you could just wait a few weeks after all the ridiculous hype dies down and some decent reviews are out. Would save a whole lot of hastle. Oh but then you couldn't get the latest and "greatest?" Immediately.:)
Sho ya right.
We likes our toys at the same time our neighbors have there's.
Laughing.
Alright. Because I slept, and didn't get up, if I wanted one of these, and I'll not, yet, maybe, I'll have to wait 5 weeks to get one.
That's 4 weeks after launch day, and that's pre ordered.
It will do okay. If you do a monthly plan on the 64 GB model and don't take the protection, its coming in at $41 for 24 months, so again, I think folks bit fine.
We'll see once it gets in the hands if it has glitches.
Did any of ye score one?
you better hope you don't break it. iPhone x screen repair 249, phone repair 549
I definetly didn't. I have a 12GB shared data plan for $135 Cad, and that's a special plan. If I got a new device I'd have to renegotiate my contract, and pretty much every plan here is ass. Canada's great for many reasons, but our cell phone companies are less than not one of them. Any divice I want I have to pay outright, and I just got the Ipad Pro in May.
Did some body say break it?
Something that cost a G bll, you hold that baby tight.
Laughing.
I did read someplace that even with Apple's protection plan, a screen wouldn't be covered, and some other stuff.
I never buy the plan, but in this case, I'd really not waist the extra 150 I think. What for, if you still have to pay for repairs?
I'd slap it in a case right away, or as I say, just hold it tight.
I am careful even with the, um, cheaper ones, and these are still costly to me.
yes you right, screen damage is not protected under apple care. which, make sense when you think of it. there are too many people that are too rough with their phone. if you going to get a brand new tech baby that is around $1000, you probably would want to protect it the best you can, put it in a protected case.
Yes, I suppose you're right.
Speaking of babies, do you know how many people will give these expensive items to children, or even babies to play with?
Folks are always walking about with hands full, plus trying to use the phone too, and that I don't understand.
If you are boarding a taxi, train, or bus, put it in your purse already!
But, if you've got plenty money, who cares about this?
Laughing.
Some reporters on cnet.com actually have an X to play with, so have been writing on it.
It still is vary much visuals that make it different from say an 8+, so I stand on my thoughts earlier.
If you just want the great top of the line, that is what you'll get, but for functions the 8 is our device.
I've been in line for days now.
I need a shower, shave, and a hot cup of coffee.
The dorrs are about to open.
JK.
Good luck for all that are doing this, or who have.
I had a chance to lay hands on the new X or 10 today.
This is what it feels like.
Just imagine an iPhone 7 or 8 4.7 inch model without the home button.
All the other buttons and such are exactly the same, and on the back, you can feel the cameras sticking out a little.
It is pretty interesting how they got the 5.8 screen in to the body, because it is a bit smaller then the iPhone +, but not much larger then the 4.7 model.
So, its an iPhone.
The plus seems over sized now, and heavier.
My rant and rave.
I feel Apple dis us preorder people. Why offer pre-orders when you weren’t going to allow them?
I read yesterday, and as you see, went in and looked at an X/10, and the clerk there said they have a good stock, but of course were sold out.
Now, if I’d gotten up early, couple days before, and staked out a claim on the door, I’d have gotten an X easy.
I could have even probably staked a spot in line to keep.
I could have hung out at the bar next door, and the Starbucks cross the street alternating with my door buddy.
These places have the bathrooms understand.
I have two stores kind of next to each other.
Verizon and A T and T.
I saw worldwide, XS’s were selling well, and some folks had 3 to themselves. Greedy people.
Anyway, I rapt this up to say, I believe Apple loves that hype. People with the latest device in hand, bad breath, dirty close, unshaven, bad hair, saying “Well, its Apple. “
Laughing.
Haha! What a picture you paint, Wayne. I love it. I'm sorry you didn't get your new phone.
Is the X the same size as the 7 and 8? My husband might make the switch from a 6, but we haven't seen the 8 in person.
I'm happily sticking with my sweet little SE. And on the topic of little things, I scored a pair of Airpods, yesterday! Pricy, but I love these things. I listen to all my books on my phone, and I'm delighted that even when the phone is locked and playing a book, I can double tap an earbud, and pause/restart my book... or music, or whatever. Or just remove an earbud, and the same thing is achieved, all free of wires!
I actually have an 8. Not the 10.
On your question. You've felt a 7 or 8. The 10, or X, would feel really similar in size, but its actually a bit larger.
They've done some magic and gotten a larger screen surfus in to the X model, but it really feels a good size.
It is larger then your SE, smaller then the 8+.
It be like removing the home button from the 8, and rounding the edges a bit.
Feels like an iPhone. That is the best way I can describe it.
I have the iPhone X because I love adventure. I love the gestures to go home
and switch apps, and going back to my iPad, a home button feels a little clunky.
That said, I prefer Touch ID to Face ID. It works for me most of the time, but
it's not quite as convenient. Either way, within the next few years, I think that's
the way Apple will take all their phones, so love it or not, it's here to stay. As for
the camera, it really is better for OCR and bar code reading. Maybe iths just the
arrangement, but I can get things to work that never used to before.
Got my brother's 6 about a month ago because he dropped it and the screen cracked a little. The state was supposed to buy me a seven or eight but the bastards welshed on that.
Is the camera really that different between the 8 and 10? I've got the 6S Plus which is somewhat laggy now with IOS 11.
The camera is pretty different from the 8 and 10, yes. It's more in line with
the 8+'s camera, though I think they said that the 10 camera is nicer.
Additionally, I do also believe that the 10 has about 2 hours more battery life
than the standard 8, or maybe it was the 8+. I don't honestly remember.
Thank you for the response.
Been reading CNECT's camera text. Seems the 10 and 8+ are similar they say.
Depending on the situation, the 8+ was better.
No extra battery life.
If the poster had anything less then a 7, even an 8 would do a bit better CNET says.
The 8+ and 10 have the same camera preety much with the acception of ais on both sensors on the 10 vs ais on the main sensor for the 8 plus. The 8 plus is faster than the 10 because it doesn't need to alicate as many resources to driving the OLED display. The iPhone 8, 8 plus, and 10 all have the same system on a chip inside except for the 1 gig extra of ram in the 10, but I could be wrong about that one. The 10 has better battery life than the 8 by 2 hours and the 8 plus by 1. The 10 is mor expensive than everything but that is because people have to pay for the latest. and for apple, this is a big change, so of course its going to be expensive. if you went into the iPhone 10 launch not expecting it to be expensive your kidding yourself, its apple.
I'm betting next release all the features on the 10 will come on the next gen models anyway.
most likely. or they will keep it the same. this brings in mor money for those who still want the home button.
